The Cinnamon Conversation (TCC)

The Cinnamon Conversation (TCC) hosts informal conversations with professors, alumni and invited guests in a variety of formats to spur intellectual debate. From dinners to beanbags, we aim to foster cozy environments for good conversations.

Our guests come from a variety of backgrounds and industries. In AY20/21, we have had politicians in Singapore (PAP's Lawrence Wong, Louis Ng; PSP's Hazel Poa), academics from both in and out of NUS, filmmaker Anthony Chen, and more. We try to host talks with a diverse range of people, to fulfill the USP's community's diverse range of interests.

IG Activities

Our talks take the style of AMAs or dialogues, depending on the nature of the session. We also occasionally host focus group-esque discussions, depending on our guests' profiles. Our sessions are ad-hoc in nature, but usually occur during non-academically intensive weeks.

For the general student population, we open the conversation for sign-ups after we have planned the logistics and secured our invites. Sign-ups are on a first-come-first-serve basis, or vetted based on our criteria (usually the quality of submissions) if vacancy is limited.

For TCC exco members, they will work on an individual or collaborative basis to source and host talks. TCC aims to operate on a flat hierarchy internally, and members are free to propose their speakers and format.

Key Events

Ad-Hoc talks on Zoom or in person.

Commitment Levels

We hope that recruited members can plan or host at least 1-2 talks each academic year. The process is not as intimidating as it might seem, if you are new to this.
